StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children—and adults—to enjoy reading in a unique environment. Laminated pages from a children’s book will be mounted on wayside signs near the Civic Center & Park. As you stroll down the path, you will be directed to the next page of a story.
The StoryWalk® Project was created in 2007 by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, in collaboration with Kellogg-Hubbard Library and the Vermont Bike and Pedestrian Coalition. StoryWalks have now been installed all around the United States and internationally.
StoryWalk® supports Every Child Ready to Read, an initiative of the Public Library Association and the Association for Library Services to Children, which identifies five early literacy practices parents and caregivers can do to prepare children for reading. When families participate in a StoryWalk® that includes activities and literacy tips, talking, singing, reading, writing and playing become part of their experience.
